Switching Sites

Managing Multiple Websites

Once you have the website builder installed on one domain, we offer additional domains/websites to be installed in the same system at discounted rates.  Each domain/website is referred to as a 'site', it can be a website, subdomain, even a special folder where your files are stored.

If you have multiple sites setup, you will be able to switch between these sites once you login.  All of the sites available for you to manage will appear in a dropdown list at the top of the website builder, if you only have one domain you will still see this dropdown list but it will only have one site in it.

When you have a multi-site website builder, you only have one website builder location and will always login at cms.yoursite1.com, even if you have sites yoursite2.com, yoursite3.com etc.

Switching Between Your Sites

Switching between your sites is easy, simply select the site you want to switch to in your dropdown site list and you will be prompted if you are sure you want to change.   Press 'Ok' and the system will load the site you have selected, you will not have to login again as it will keep your current session open.

Advantages of Multiple Sites

There are a number of benefits to having multiple sites on the one system, as opposed to having a website builder installed for each website.

  • You get discounted rates for each additional site
  • Since there is only one Website Builder installation you save some diskspace on your additional sites (our software footprint is small however!)
  • You only need to login once to edit all of your sites.
  • You can setup administration across multiple sites, and restrict access to who can access which sites.
  • You can (optionally) use the memberlist from any of the sites you have installed in the same website builder.  This means members could sign up at one of your websites, but be able to login at all of your websites if you like.

Disadvantages of Multiple Sites

There are some disadvantages to multiple sites as well.

  • The data from all of your sites are stored in the one database, this just means it can be harder to migrate individual sites to their own systems - but we are working on tools for this (and it is very rarely requested!)
  • The library thumbnails for all of your sites are stored on the website builder site, this means you will use slightly more space on the domain with the website builder, however you will use slightly less space on the site itself so it evens out.
  • If you have many very large & high volume sites then you might be better off having a couple of separate website builders to split up the databases.
