How Membership Effects your Website
Access to new Website Pages.
When the membership module is activated for your website, a set of special pages will be accessible by visitors to your website. (You must make these pages accessible by placing links/menu buttons to them on your site). These pages can be found with other special pages in the Pages and Content section, in the blue Special Pages folder. These pages currently include:
login:
The login page is where your members go to login with their email and password.
my_profile:
Once a member logs in they can access their profile and edit their details here.
register:
This page is used for potential members to enter their details and register for membership.
register_conditions:
This page is where you put any Terms & Conditions you have for members signing up. It is important that you set this page up before you begin taking registrations.
register_tools:
A useful set of tools for your members, here they can use the Lost Password Recovery, Re-send Activation Email, Unsubscribe from the Mailing List and Newsletter List and remove their account.
restricted_access:
This is the page that members are sent to when they try to access a page on your website that they don't have access too. You can customize this page how you like.
restricted_form:
This page is used to handle custom registration forms which you can setup by using the form bulider in the rich text editor. The form type must be set to custom script, and must point to this page.
Access to new Panels
When the membership module is installed you can use some special panels in the Panel Library in the blue Special Panels folder. Note that these panels are available even if the membership module is not installed, but will be not perform any actions.
These panels currently include:
Login Panel: When the visitor is not logged in this panel shows a Login link and a Register link. If a member is logged in this panel shows 'Welcome membername', and links to Edit Profile or Logout.
Newsletter Signup Panel: This panel has a field where a visitor can enter their email address and a button which says 'Add My Email'. This allows them to sign up with an email only if you use this panel, and is useful for sites just wanting to use membership for newsletters.
Open Member Mode vs Member Policy Mode
This is an important setting which can be found in the Member Settings section of your Website Builder. All websites start in Open Member Mode, which gives everyone who visits your site access to all areas of the website. Any policies you setup are only enforced in Member Policy Mode.
In both modes members can register for membership, so you can run your website in Open Policy Mode if you only want to collect a member list for Newsletters, Mailing or E-commerce.
For more information on these modes, see the topics Planning Your Membership Structure and Configuring Your Member Settings.
